Scarborough

Scarborough is one of the largest resorts on the Yorkshire coast. The town has a population of 50,000 that swells in the summer months. Scarborough has 2 bays , the North and South, separated by a large headland that has the ruins of Scarborough castle on it which dates back to the 11th century. The North bay of Scarborough tends to be quieter than the South Bay and visitors can walk from one to the other by Marine Drive, a Victorian promenade built at the foot of the headland.
Scarborough has a long history that dates back to the Vikings and earlier. During the English civil war, much of the town was destroyed. Elizabeth Farrow discovered a stream of acidic water and during the Victorian period, Scarborough became a spa resort and one of the major seaside resorts in the country. The aptly named Grand Hotel dates from this period and is still one of the finest hotels in the resort.
